Healing Touch - 5 Simple Ways to Improve Listening to Spiritual Guidance

By Linda Lee Smith

We know from our own experiences, from the scriptures, and from the writings of the saints that in order for healing to take place, we the healing practitioner must be continuously in touch with God or with our Higher Source. Wow! How easy is that?! Most would say-not very easy at all. Our lives are busy and full of the vicissitudes of life-like making a living, supporting our families, paying the bills, taking care of others. When we are with clients, it often is hard to "listen" for direction-our minds have trouble slowing down. Yet real listening means maintaining both a mental and spiritual connectedness as we lay our hands on someone, pray for them or anoint them. How do we establish a habit of listening?

Here are a few suggestions that we can incorporate into our lives:

 daily meditation

 spiritual renewal

 spiritual guidance

 inspirational reading

time alone to maintain an openness to Spirit's direction

I call this "learning to live the sacred life, virtuous and pure in heart" and everyone can learn to do it. Listening is present moment activity and comes with practice. What do these five activities have in common? They are quiet activities that create space in our lives to not only live the sacred life, but also to make room for God's direction in our lives.

We are not alone-God has been encouraging us, guiding us and speaking to our hearts our whole lives. There has not been a time when we have been apart from God. When we turn our ear, our whole being to God, we often feel strengthened for our tasks ahead of us. The first step in our listening is to remember who we are, beloved children of God. Relax in the Lord and be willing to be healed, to be whole. As we do, our fears melt away and we see them for what they really are, just lies that keep us from God's voice. And that is the key. We must heal our relationship with God. As we do, our own inner channel of connection is opened and we begin to hear divine guidance more clearly. How do we know this? By the peace we feel within. This is the place to begin as we awaken to God's direction in our spiritual healing work with others. Want to learn more about listening to spiritual guidance?
