Mirrors mirrors everywhere! At least that's what it feels like in so many gyms. Most gyms these days have at LEAST one full wall of mirrors, if not more. Most of the time people use the mirrors to admire their bodies, and to admire the bodies of attractive members of the opposite sex incognito. Still others do their hair and check their makeup in the mirrors. Some people even seem to think the mirrors are there to be leaned upon, leaving grease marks that gym janitors just LOVE to clean.
Well it's actually not a vanity issue. You are supposed to use the mirrors to watch your form when you workout. Having a mirror is a very valuable training tool for this reason. When you are doing any lift that allows for it, make sure that you use the mirrors to ensure that you are keeping proper form during the movement. Also, it is not good to look down with certain movements, arm blaster curls comes to mind here, so using the mirror lets you see your lower body without hurting your neck.
I am sure that people will continue to love gym mirrors for all the wrong reasons. But now that you know what they are used for, be one of the few who actually uses them to make their body better. When you are on the beach showing off the body you worked so hard to get and the people who spent their time checking their hair at the gym are at home wearing sweatpants, you can decide which use of the mirror was better!
