Do You Want Bigger Biceps?

By Ryan Kelly

Do you want bigger biceps? Do I even have to ask that question? Every male above the age of eight wants to have a comic book superhero's biceps, but of course most people do not have that kind of arm. Biceps are also an ego muscle. When people ask you to "make a muscle" odds are you immediately roll up your sleeves and flex your biceps. Everyone loves big biceps, and everyone wants to have the biggest arms on the beach!

Still, there is one thing about the biceps you should know. About 80% of your bicep shape is genetically determined. Notice that I said SHAPE is genetically determined, SIZE you determine with your training. Not everyone will have Arnold Schwarzenegger's high bicep peak, no matter how many bicep curls they do. Also, it is no secret that Arnold had a little help from "sports technology" when he was developing his biceps. In any case, you can to a small degree shape your muscle with certain exercises but this effect is smaller than the genetic effect.

Although you can't make your bicep change shape, what you can do is make them grow larger. Although you may not have Arnold's bicep shape, if you bicep becomes larger overall it will have a higher peak also. This way, someone with a naturally long and short bicep shape could have a higher peak than someone with a naturally high bicep, just because their bicep is that much bigger. No matter what your genetics, you can have big arms with proper training and nutrition.
